The Tech Side

The QR Code Thing
RSS Feed Strategy
Github & The Internet Archive

This page is where we link and discuss all the non-clinical nerdy things. Part of the Rykerr Medical project is innovative use of technology, so that’s what this lil bit is all about.

The QR Code Thing

In the Vent Book we used QR codes to direct readers to all of the references and sources cited. This is cool if you happen to print off a copy and can’t be bothered to type in URLs to double check the stuff we’ve come up with. Now you can just smartphone the QR codes and get in on a whole ‘nuther level of study.

Now the process of putting that system together was a bit complicated, so we’ve put together a video to show you how to do the same for whatever project you might have in the works. Take a look and let us know what you think.

RSS Feed Strategy

We finally figured out how to build and manage our own RSS feed for the podcast and have made some resources so you can do the same with your own project if you’re up for it. It’s a two-part deal: blog post and youtube video. Check ‘em both out and let us know how it goes!

Pros: doesn’t cost any money, allows you to port your podcast project wherever you want, learn some cool nerdy tech stuff

Cons: required reading, required video watching, sitting at a computer

Github & The Internet Archive

Part of the Rykerr Medical mission is to promote and utilize truly free resources to facilitate open sharing of information. Two platforms we make use of are Github and The Internet Archive.

Github This here site is built on github and is hosted for your viewing pleasure at absoultely no cost. Which is rad. Github has tons of resources for learning how to use the platform for your specific tech needs - check it out to learn more.

As an example, we firured out how to build and host The Rykerr Medical Podcast on github at absolutely no cost. And we made a video & blog post combo (noted above) to show you how we did it.

The Internet Archive The Internet Acrhive is essentially a free online library that allows citizens and users to upload things and archive web pages so that data and information is not lost with time. We use this service to host files for this site and the podcast, also to save references that we cite in our various posts and projects.
